Imagine you need a quick and easy way to update the project you’re working on. Sound simple enough. But as we all know project management usually involves using more than one platform to monitor and manage your projects. And sometimes using multiple systems can be quite cumbersome and slow process. And of course that leads to frustration and wasted time.
Here at Cloudpipes we do love all things Atlassian. We love using their products, and it’s no surprise that many of our clients use them as well. And of them all, probably the most used is Jira. The tool provides powerful bug tracking, issue tracking, and project management capabilities which are used throughout the business world. One of the more common scenarios we see is when it is paired with another quite popular service - Smartsheet. The collaboration and work management tool offers a great flexibility that integrates really well with Jira’s project management options. That’s why more and more customers are integrating the two using Cloudpipes.
We've all been there. Tracking and updating tickets, escalating to the proper team, and then report. We all wish it was fast and easy, but in many times is quite the opposite. Many managers try to tackle this by finding the right tools to simplify the workflow, only to find that it's too time consuming. The ability to properly delegate tasks and monitor their execution could prove vital for a smooth project management. In this blogpost we'll show you how to easily update a Smartsheet row after an update has been made in Jira.
Integrate Jira and Smartsheet with Cloudpipes
We get it. You want better results, faster. We dedicated much time and efforts into making this happen by automating your work process within a single environment. In a world where every minute counts, one cannot afford to lose time building integrations themselves.
We understand that moving between tasks should be fast and easy. That’s why we came up with this simple, and hopefully useful post that will show you how just with a few click you'll be able to update your project in both Jira and Smartsheet simultaneously.
To start building your pipeline, first you need to log into Cloudpipes. Don't have an account? No worries. You can easily sign up for our 14-days free Trial.
Let's sync Jira with Cloudpipes first. The easiest way to do that is search for it in the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner. Then click Connect. You’ll be prompted to write your Jira server URL, login and password.
Connecting Smartsheet with Cloudpipes is easier. All you have to do is click on the Connect button, and Cloudpipes will do the rest.
Building Your Pipeline
In today's post we'll make a pipeline that triggers every time when an update is being made to an issue in Jira.
By clicking on the blue box below the Issue Type field, a larger pool of options will appear. From there you can choose to set a status, assignee and reporter names. Once those or other criteria are selected, Cloudpipes will then proceed to fetch a linked Smartsheet row, which was previously linked to the Jira issue.
Fetching the linked row is automatically followed by updating it. Here we have the freedom to define status, assignee, put a description, or if we choose to map other criteria.
To trigger the pipeline simply click on the ON button and wait until the Cloudpipes syncs with the other two services, and starts running.
And we're set! This is just one example of how to do project management with Jira and Smartsheet. Will be posting more articles involving the Atlassian products due to the high amount of interest that those tools attract.
